June 30, 2010  Midweek Ministry Notes

Sunday is July 4^th, the anniversary of our country’s movement toward independence.  In honor of the important day, we would like to include the pledge of allegiance to the American flag as part of our worship services.  We are asking for volunteers who would be willing to come forward and lead the worshipers in the pledge to the American flag and also the Christian flag.  If you are willing to do this, please either send a reply to Pastor Zachrich or phone the church office (330-633-4775).

Please join us for services of inspiration, remembrance and thanksgiving.  A special musical ensemble has prepared a stirring anthem for both services.  Be sure to include our Heavenly Father in your weekend of activities.  Bring visiting friends and family with you!

The church parking lot will be closed on Monday, July 5^th for sealing & striping. (If  you come to the church, please park at the Recreation Center.) The church office will also be closed on July 5 in observance of  Independence Day.

Summer Gathering for Families in Faith: The members and friends of the Families in Faith group are invited to a get-together at Jim and Robin Bergmann’s house, 695 Longacre Drive, Akron, on Saturday, July 24^th at 4 p.m. This group meets weekly during the school year for study, fellowship, mission projects, and holiday events and then during the summer several times for fun and friendship. Don’t Wait Till the Last Minute!  King’s Kids is currently taking enrollment for 2010-2011 school year for children in full time kindergarten through 6^th grade.  We offer a wide variety of activities and provide an afterschool snack.  Hours of operation are 6:30 - 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 - 6:00 p.m.  For more information or to register your child, please call Katie Bungard, Director, at 330-633-4908.

Tallmadge Christian Preschool is accepting applications for the Fall 2010 school year. Our classes start September 8 and continue through the middle of May. Children experience a wide variety of activities including a theme unit lesson that includes Bible stories, music, language arts, math, arts & crafts, large and small muscle activities and field trips. We have openings in two morning classes which are from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m., and also in the afternoon classes which are from 12:15 -2:45 p.m. The registration fee is $35. Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity are teaming up this year to continue efforts in providing affordable housing for families in the greater Akron area. We have been asked to provide volunteers for the following works dates: August 18, September 22, October 8, November 13, December 11, 2010, and January 15, 2011. Five to six volunteers are needed per date and are being coordinated by Rick Weyandt. A fund raising goal of  $10,000 has been set for the Summit/Portage Thrivent Chapter membership for continued support of this worthwhile organization. Thrivent Financial will offer matching funds. Send-Off of Youth & Leaders to National Youth Gathering – Sunday, July 11^th We will pray for and send out 12 youth and 3 adult leaders as representatives of TLC to the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans.  Please pray for safe travel, inspired learning, and a growth in friendship in and out of the youth group.

Prayer-Walk: Part 2 - Please join us Wednesday, July 14th, 7:00 p.m., for our second prayer-walk through the community. The walk gives us an opportunity to see both the blessings and needs of those around us. The walk helps us formulate specific prayers for the people and issues that touch our community.  And, the fellowship of the group is unsurpassed.  All are welcome.  Please sign-up by the mailboxes.

“LTG” Groups are beginning for all who would like to become part of a 2 – 4 person group that meets frequently for Bible discussion, accountability and prayer.  Please contact Pastor Zachrich for information about new and existing groups.  The life transforming groups are an excellent way to take discipleship to a deeper level.

A small task force (Wayne Schneider, Linda Weyandt, Sherry Kellar and Pastor Zachrich) have been meeting to plan for the creation of ministry task forces and ministry groups at Tallmadge Lutheran.  Three evenings of leadership training will be offered in August with the creation of task forces and ministry groups to follow.  If you would like to participate in the leadership training to lead a group, please sign-up at the mailboxes, respond to this email, or call the church office.  All are welcome!

A prayer for the Fourth of July

Dear Lord,

There is no greater feeling of liberation than to experience freedom from sin and death that you have provided for me through Jesus Christ.

Today my heart and my soul are free to praise you. For this I am very thankful.

On this Independence Day I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that my freedom was purchased with a very high price. My freedom cost others their very lives.

Lord, today, bless those who have served and continue to give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty meet their needs and watch over their families.

Help me to live my life in a way that glorifies you, Lord. Give me the strength to be a blessing in someone else's life today, and grant me the opportunity to lead others into the freedom that can be found in knowing Christ.

Amen.
