New Class Begins Sunday: How to Make Choices You Won’t Regret - Whatever decisions confront you today, God offers the help you need to be sure that today’s choices will not turn into tomorrow’s regrets.  Time will be spent in Scripture and mutual discussion.  Pastor Zachrich is  the leader.  (Room 12)

“Sticking with God: Knowing His Love” is the theme for Summer Sunday School. Children Pre-K through 4th grade will meet in Room #2.  Children who just finished grades 5th-8th will meet in Room #1.  Youth in 9th-12th will meet in the Youth Room (Room #7).

Tuesday Mornings (10:00-11:30 a.m.)  -  This class is studying the book of Psalms. All are welcome.  Pastor Doug Riley is the teacher. (Room #12)   

 

Wednesday Mornings for Men (6:30 a.m.) - Meet us at Taggarts, 48 Metric Drive, Tallmadge. Chris Tywon is the leader.

SUMMER GATHERING FOR FAMILIES IN FAITH: The members and friends of the Families in Faith group are invited to a get-together at Jim & Robin Bergmann’s house, 695 Longacre Drive, Akron, on Saturday, July 24th at 4:00 p.m. This group meets weekly during the school year for study, fellowship, mission projects, and holiday events and then during the summer several times for fun and friendship. Leadership Training Course to begin in August! A key component of our transforming congregation process is to train many men and women for leadership work on task forces and ministry teams.  A three-week course is in the final planning stages.  The course is open to all.  Please prayerfully consider being part of the group so that you are equipped to help lead one of our vital ministries.  For encouragement (and a Biblical reminder) please read Romans 12.  Dates & Times:  Wednesdays, August 11, 18, & 25; 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

JUNIOR YOUTH will be going to the Sumner Retirement Community on Sunday, July 25th. The youth will be helping with lunch and will also eat lunch with the esidents. Youth will meet at the church at 12:30 p.m. and return home between 4-4:30 p.m.  The youth are asked to bring any squirt guns, bubbles, bubble machines, and/or any outside games that they have at home.  Drivers are needed to transport the youth.  Please call Amber Styskal, DCE, at 330-633-4775 if you are able to help drive, if you would like to go, or if you have any questions.

TLC RUMMAGE SALE SET FOR FRIDAY & SATURDAY, AUGUST 20 & 21 - Start saving items for Tallmadge Lutheran's second rummage sale scheduled for Friday and Saturday, August 20 & 21.  You may begin to drop off items Monday, August 9, during normal office hours. We will accept furniture, books, household items, toys, children’s and baby clothes. We will also take ADULT shoes, purses, socks (men & women), ties, belts, scarves.  We will not be accepting adult clothes.  Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Mission Outreach Team for their annual New Orleans trip. We are looking for volunteers to help. A sign-up sheet can be found on the Information Table. If you have any questions, please contact Sandy Dixon at 330-688-6258.

THRIVENT FINANCIAL and HABITAT FOR HUMANITY are teaming up this year to continue efforts in providing affordable housing for families in the greater Akron area. We have been asked to provide volunteers for the following works dates: August 18, September 22, October 8, November 13, December 11, 2010, and January 15, 2011. Five to six volunteers are needed per date and are being coordinated by Rick Weyandt. A fund raising goal of  $10,000 has been set for the Summit/Portage Thrivent Chapter membership for continued support of this worthwhile organization. Thrivent Financial will offer matching funds. If you are interested in sponsoring a fundraising event, support, ideas and Habitat promotional ideas are available. INKJET CARTRIDGES & CELL PHONES RECYCLING - Help our youth group by donating your USED cell phones and EMPTY laser and inkjet printer cartridges. These items may be placed in the marked boxes located in the Library and on top of the preschool boxes.  The funds raised will be used to help defray the cost of their trip to the LCMS National Youth Gathering in New Orleans.  If you have any questions, please call Amber Styskal, DCE, at 330-633-4775.

THE LUTHERAN WOMEN'S MISSIONARY LEAGUE (LWML) is collecting baby coupons as an on-going project for the MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) program.  You can place baby coupons in the manila envelope on the bulletin board across from Pastor's office.

Coming Sunday, August 29th: TLC’s Annual Church Picnic, Maca Park, Pavilion 1 One of the highlights of each year is our annual picnic. The food is plentiful and delicious. The fellowship is tops. The games are lots of fun. There is something for everyone – including our friends and neighbors.  Save the date!

Monday afternoon our congregation was recognized at the Synodical convention as an outstanding congregation for our work with the Transforming Congregation’s process.  Dr. Gerald Kieschnick, President of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod gave us a very nice award (it is temporarily in Pastor’s office – stop and see it!).  How richly the Lord has blessed us!  (To see pictures of the presentation, go to www.LCMS.org, click on “convention” and follow the links to “photos”.
